Great Ocean Road: 15 Must See Highlights
Welcome to Melbourne! Meet your group at the CBD pick-up location at 8am, then drive the scenic route through Anglesey and Lorne to Apollo Bay. Upon arrival, we will collect lunch and other supplies before our first walk from Apollo Bay to Shelly Beach. On the way, we’ll spot fur seals in Marengo, traverse picturesque farmland, and follow the coastline through stunning stunted Mesmet and Badlands forests. From here, we’ll head to the dense forests of Great Otway National Park and walk along Shelly Beach where you’ll smell the scent of eucalyptus. Then drive 40 minutes to Cape Otway Lightstation (or Bimby Park), where your accommodation, warm shower awaits and your guide will prepare you a freshly cooked dinner tonight – every hiker’s dream!
SPECIAL INFO This is an early morning pick-up in Melbourne CBD at 8am and we will be heading straight from here for our first walk. If you need to fly earlier in the day for an early pick-up, we will be happy to provide additional accommodation (pending).
After breakfast, drive to Shelly Beach to get ready for the first day of a two-day long walk. Today we head inland again, passing through magnificent mountain ash forests, rolling plains and plateaus that make Great Otway National Park a worthwhile walking destination. Once at Blanket Bay, keep an eye out for black cockatoos, wallabies and echidnas on your way along the cliff tops before reaching the Cape Otway Lighthouse and accommodation around you.

Since your home is so close to today’s starting point, all you need to do is get out of bed and lace up your hiking boots, and you’re ready to hit the trails. Today’s walk was another long walk, but you wouldn’t mind taking in such a stunning and varied landscape. Rolling sand dunes, coastal scrub and sea cliffs rise above Station Beach and Rainbow Falls. Today’s inland route offers stunning scenery along the coastline and the River Eyre. The trail briefly heads inland before returning to the coastal dunes of Castle Bay around the River Eyre. From Castle Cove, the trail leads into the sheltered coastal forest behind the dunes before reaching Johanna Beach for a short 2km stretch of beach before the end of the day’s walk.

After your delicious breakfast prepared by your guide, we will drive to the Milanesian Gate to begin our walk. Today’s hike includes more spectacular highlights like Milanesian Beach, so isolated it feels like you own this rugged stretch of coastline, with views of towering sea cliffs and Cape Otway. From here, we’ll walk through the coastal forest before arriving at our pick-up point at Moonshine Head. This afternoon we will depart from our Cape Otway accommodation to Port Campbell. Since dinner is not included tonight, you may choose to go to a local restaurant with your group.

Great Ocean Road Private Tour: Twelve Apostles, Forest Walk, Koalas & More
We’ll start today’s walk along a freshly cut track with breathtaking views from one of Australia’s highest sea cliffs. After passing through the large casuarina trees, we will come to the veritable Shipwreck Beach, where the anchor can still be seen at low tide. If you can see the anchor, we’ll continue on this route to Devil’s Kitchen and then to Princetown. Otherwise, we’ll take the new high tide route for pickup this afternoon. The seaside village of Port Campbell is the perfect place to spend the night after a day of walking.
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to Princetown for a stroll along the Galibrand River and the famous Twelve Apostles. Originally known as the Saw and Piglet, these iconic limestone formations were named the Twelve Apostles as part of a tourism campaign in the 1920s, although there are only nine peaks. There are now eight. Since the wind and sea are eroding fast, it may decrease soon, so you are lucky to have a great view here. After the walk, we will return to Melbourne via Colac, arriving around 5pm. There is no accommodation available tonight, but if you would like to spend more time here we can book additional accommodation for you (pending).

Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk
1. Day 1: Your adventure begins at 8am on Day 1 in Melbourne CBD. You will be picked up in front of the National Gallery of Victoria.
2. Last day: Expect to return to Melbourne CBD around 5pm and get off at the same location as the meeting point.
4. Due to limited group size at Cape Otway Lightstation, some tours will take place at Bimby Park.
5. The April 6 departure will be slightly modified, with the first night at Best Western Apollo Bay, then two nights at Bimby Park/Cape Otway and the last two nights at Port Campbell.
