More than once I woke them up in the process of feeling the back of my head, or if my face was cold. I had one of those paper thermometer things but it never gave an accurate reading and wasn’t reliable plus I could never see it in the dark.
I recently had the opportunity to review the Gro Egg from the Gro company and we can safely say that we love it and it will be a must have for us when the 3rd few come out in a few weeks.
Here’s Why You Should Always Bake With Room Temperature Eggs
TheGro-eggis is a color changeable digital room thermometer and just one aspect is all you need to see the temperature in your baby’s room and adjust the heat, window or bed accordingly, no longer feeling their neck and risking raising them!
The right room temperature is important for your baby as health professionals say a room temperature of 16-20 degrees (Fahrenheit 61-67 is the safest for a sleeping baby to reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death). The Gro-Egg turns yellow. when the room temperature is within these ranges and it changes color when the temperature goes above or below this so you can see at a glance the temperature in your child’s room.
The Gro Egg is a nice size at only 70mm x 110mm and sits discreetly anywhere including the power cord, it has an on/off switch underneath so it’s easy to turn off if necessary and the temperature is instantly turned on and off. . which is plain to see on a clear screen. The messages have handy instructions about dressing and bedding/Grobag your child depending on the temperature so that’s also handy.
First of all we were going to try out of our Gro egg from the small 2 which is definitely the cutest thing in the back of the house and then to at least 3 for use in the nursery when the time comes, but I think we will have something to invest. something else like a little egg 2 loves the light of the night only!

Little 2 is afraid of the dark and has been since he was about 19 months old (you can read about it here) and since I’ve had a few different night lights over the last year I’ve got to say I really love the Gro Egg. night, light too. The room doesn’t light up like a Christmas tree like some we’ve tried, and it has a soft glow so it’s easy to see rather than having a small thing plugged into an outlet where you can’t see it. I think it would be suitable light in the nursery to check the baby as well.
The company also sells an “egg cover” for your Gro Egg to turn it into a night-friendly light, a soft plastic cover shaped like an animal. We went to Percy Penguin after a few days looking for our Gro Egg and realizing how much Little 2 liked it and now it definitely won’t be moving to the nursery!
