Samsung S6 Dropped In Water – The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge bring metal and glass (and more) to the flagship lineup

Recent Galaxy S flagships have had iterative designs (like the HTC One M9 announced today). But with Apple now making large-screen phones, the pressure is on Samsung – and it has just launched two phones that mark the biggest physical changes in the Galaxy S lineup: Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

Long known for its plastic builds, Samsung has recently upped its game in the materials department. The first few Samsung phones like the Galaxy Note 4 added metal edges, and now the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 ditch the plastic edges altogether, instead of using a metal frame and glass back (Gorilla Glass 4 to be exact).

Both phones have 5.1-inch Quad HD, Super AMOLED displays. This is the same screen size as last year’s Galaxy S5, but with a big jump in resolution (these two have a crazy 577 pixels per inch).

The Edge screen continues the trend we saw on last year’s Galaxy Note Edge, which had a sloping curve on the right side of the screen. However, the edge of the Galaxy S6 has a similar curve on both sides.

The GS6 and GS6 Edge are also compatible with wireless chargers out of the box. They also feature fast charging technology, which consumes around 4 hours of use in just 10 minutes (as usual, this should only be applied when the phone’s battery is already dead).

In terms of features, both phones (rumored) ditch Qualcomm in favor of octa-core Samsung Equinos processors and have 3GB of RAM along with 32/64/128GB storage options (they, however, lose the microSD card slots that were almost universal. in older Samsung phones). They have 16 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera, along with 2,550 mAh (GS6) and 2,600 mAh (GS6 edge) batteries. Both run Android 5.0 Lollipop with the latest version of Samsung’s TouchViz user interface.

As you can see above, both phones are incredibly thin, measuring 6.8 mm (0.27 inches) for the Galaxy S6 and 7 mm (0.28 inches) for the Galaxy S6 edge. They are also very light, at 138g (GS6) and 132g (edge).

We’ll have to wait for the review units to say anything definitive here, but at the very least, they show that Samsung is willing to take on its biggest brand critics and reinvent its flagship product line.
