Getting in and out of the Evoque is easy thanks to its wide doors and relatively low ride height. And the quality of leather and trim used on the HSE is top notch. Perforated seats provide a cushioning cushion underneath between good, firm bolstering on the sides. The metal panel on the center console of this vehicle had a solid character but there are many color and wood options available.

The overall design has aged in contrast to the new entries in the premium SUV market, but it’s still good. Range Rover has given the Evoque a full range of multi-mode off-road terrain settings, suggesting it can tackle a boggy track on the way to the Flinders Ranges. Even if it could, 211mm of ground clearance won’t allow it to ride much safer.
In addition, it is built for the “burbs”, where this HSE 290 – 290 CV 213 kW in modern terms, as it is produced from the engine – is almost excessive. While a claimed 6.4-second 0-100km/h isn’t very fast performance car territory, it feels quick enough in a 2.3-tonne compact SUV.
