Hi, Christy in Rada’s kitchen, and today I’m making a complete kit and caboodle candy cake. Everything came together to have fun. It’s Scotcheroos, Kit Kat Bars, and M&M’s.
First you need to prepare your pans. You will need a 9 inch round pan lined with wax paper. Then you will need an 8 or 9 inch square pan, lined with wax paper. So get them ready and ready to go. Take a large pot and go to the stove.
So, on medium heat we combine 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups of peanut butter, 2 cups of wheat flour and we heat it until the sugar dissolves in the peanut butter and corn syrup. Now the sugar and peanut butter are melted together. You will need 12 cups of Special K cereal. You can put it in a big bowl because you need to mix everything. Use half of the cereal mixture first. Pour this over it. I’m going to wake it up. Once you add the peanut butter sugar mixture to the cereal. I like to take wax paper and pack it carefully. Make sure to press it firmly. This is the base of your cake.
Kit Kat M&ms Ice Cream Cake
So here I have a 13 inch base plate and we’re going to pull one around the 9 inch so you can screw it in there. You have to put the foundation aside. Now with this cardboard pan we put it on a cutting board and remove the wax paper. What I did with the parchment paper, I cut out a 6 inch circle and a 3 inch circle. So with the knife I’m going to use that as a model. You might want to make sure it fits, I can get my whole circle in there to accommodate this. This will be the next 2 layers. With a knife, the Rada Super Parer, we cut out a circle of just 6 inches. If necessary, you can add it together. Make sure you create it together. Cut out your 3 inch circle.
So we put those circles aside and we’re going to make our edible glue. That would be 2 cups of milk chocolate chips and 2 cups of butterscotch chips. We’re going to melt it in the microwave until it’s smooth. These chips took about a minute and a half to melt, nice and smooth. What we’re going to do is use this to solidify the first layer, the layer you have on your base. This is Rada Spreader. Once you do this spread, we’re going to put our space, this is 6 inches, that snow, and then we’re going to put our space 3 inches. You may want to chill it so you have a firm base.
First, we put our chocolate aside. You will need 42 of these snack-sized Kit Kat bars. We are putting them there. You may need to touch them to keep them calm. When the chocolate cools, they are glued in place. You do the same for the second part. It’s okay if the chocolate gets messy in there because we’re going to fill them with M&Ms.
Now you have completed your second part. Your final layer can do the same. So now we’ve made our slopes and we’re going to fill those cells with a 42 ounce bag of M&M’s. It doesn’t hurt to make the cake the night before the filling because if the chocolate isn’t set it won’t hold the Kit Kats very well.
Kit Kat And Oreo Cake!
So no we have all our M&M’s in a slightly fancy form. What I want to do is take a thumbtack and a skewer and push the thumbtack through the pointed side of the skewer and I want to stick it on top.
How good is that? Your complete kit and caboodle cake is ready to serve. It will impress your friends and family. If you want you can put birthday candles in the middle, it’s a neat cake idea! It’s three birthdays at the same time: seven years, ten years and twenty-nine years. And although my nieces and husband are best friends, they don’t have common interests – two are Arsenal fans, one Spurs; Two such as Roald Dahl, the greatest of foreign film…
So it felt special to come up with a cake design that would appeal to everyone. Then I thought about food – and everyone loves chocolate and sweets. So this cake – quick to decorate – was a great success.
It takes less than 10 minutes to decorate, but prices can get high so try buying Kit Kats (I got 10 x 4 finger bars) or they have buy one, get one free. You can also use Cadbury’s fingers if you like. Some people like to tie a ribbon around the edge, but I like the clean chocolate look on top.
Kitkat Cake Design
For the two sandwich cakes, I used Mary Berry’s Perfect Victoria Sandwich recipe – because I thought a chocolate cake topped with chocolate on chocolate icing might be too much.
Line 2 x 20cm/8 sandwich tins, then combine the eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder and butter in a large mixing bowl or mixer. Mix until everything is combined and a smooth ‘falling’ consistency – that’s it
