This morning we will leave from Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) for the Rotorua area. The first stop today is Okere Falls. The falls are located on the Catuna River and are of cultural importance to the local ivy (tribes) of the area. Currently, the river is used for tourism, especially white water rafting and rafting. We will stop at the falls and see if we can spot some brave climbers on top of their falls.

Next, we’ll continue, cruising along the shores of Lake Rotorua to see the famous Mount Tarawera, once the famous red and white squares before a violent eruption destroyed them. 1886 We will arrive in Rotorua this evening and check in at our hotel. Enjoy a delicious dinner together and then settle in for a wonderful night’s sleep at Distinction Rotorua.

Known as the North Island’s geothermal hot spot and the center of all the best adventure activities, Rotorua is truly one of the best places to explore… even if your nose tells you otherwise! There is so much to see and experience here and you have a whole day free to see as much as you want.

If you want to watch geothermal activity for free, we recommend that you take a walk around Cuirau Park to see the boiling mud pools and steamy lakes.

You can book several trips through your tour guide and the options like white water rafting, tree climbing, relaxing in the Polynesian spa and taking a gondola to watch the amazing Rotorua skyline are really spoiled for choice.

This morning we went off the beaten track to the shores of Lake Anivenua in Murupara. Kohutapu Lodge is owned by a local Māori family who are passionate about not only showcasing their Māori heritage but also making a difference in the local area.

Murupara is a poor community that has made a positive difference through tourism and business development. Through a community driven initiative and a clear vision to provide more opportunities for local youth, Kohutapu Lodge has led the way in change in the area.

Begin the experience with a guided tour of the Maori rock carvings before arriving at the lodge and watch the preparation of cooked hangi and taste it for yourself!

After lunch, we will depart on a guided tour along the Rongoa Trail to the lush green Whirinaki rainforest. Learn about endangered birds and ancient medicinal plants, and learn more about the forest’s history, including myths and legends, before enjoying hot kawakawa tea and ultimate karakia in the woods.

This evening, we are going to Taupo. First, we’ll stop at the spectacular Huka Falls and watch over 22,000 liters of water drop every second of thunderstorms down the Waikato River. We’ll then continue on to our hotel, the luxurious Hilton Taupo, a 19th-century building that combines Victorian charm with modern decor. The hotel also has a tennis court, fitness center and swimming pool.

After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to leave Taupo and travel the Napier-Taupo Highway, considered the Tuscany of the South Pacific.

The stunning Hawkes Bay area has some of the best wineries, and a trip here wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Mission Estate Winery. The oldest wine in New Zealand and the birthplace of New Zealand wine.

You will sit down for lunch and enjoy delicious food and fine wines as you soak up the atmosphere and heritage of this historic building. Afterwards, it’s an easy drive to the beautiful coastal town of Napier.

Napier is known for its 1930s Art Deco façade. You have the option of walking along the promenade this evening and sampling some fresh seafood at one of the many restaurants.

Today is the time to leave the Art Deco capital and visit our luxurious capital, Wellington, where modern business style blends with the traditional, bohemian spirit.

Along the way, we’ll stop at Wairarapa’s oldest town, Greytown, for lunch. A charming village with restored Victorian buildings, Greytown is a charming place to stop, recharge and do some window shopping before continuing on our trip to Wellington.
