Golden Bbq Fortitude Valley – When entering, you can see the bbq takeaway prices on the wall. Obviously they’re slightly higher than the norm you’ll find at Sunnybank, but the difference in quality is definitely worth a little more.
The environment and seating provided is very basic, but Golden BBQ leans towards efficiency and speed rather than atmosphere. While it was very busy today and we had to wait outside for an empty seat, what I found interesting was that the owner took the initiative to take our order while we waited outside and the food was served as soon as we were seated. One point to note though, is that the water is basically self-serve.

Complementary soup is provided for all rice and dry noodles ordered. Today’s soup is a Chinese vegetable soup, with leafy vegetables. This is a refreshing start to what will be a very meaty meal.

This is Baked Duck Rice. The portion of duck provided was very generous and I heard the texture of the rice and sauce was nice.
What I found particularly impressive about this BBQ pork rice, is the lack of fat. As a (slightly) health conscious person, when I see a streak of fat in my meat, I make some effort to avoid eating it. My usual experience with BBQ pork is that it has a fatty portion. I really like that the BBQ pork at Golden BBQ doesn’t have this in it.
These are two combinations with dry noodles, the two options are roast duck and roast pork. Portions were very generous.
Since I love noodles and soup, I had the Roast Pork with noodles and soup. The noodles had a nice springy texture, not over or under cooked. I really like how they took the initiative to separate the roast pork from the soup. Some other restaurants I’ve been to don’t recognize that putting dry food in the soup makes it soggy and less appetizing, so I really appreciate that Golden BBQ can do this without being asked. The amount of pork served is probably double what you would expect elsewhere. The skin is very crispy and the meat is tender and well seasoned.

Overall I would say I really like Golden BBQ, it offers a large portion of food, to a solid standard for a good price.
