Flights Melbourne To Mauritius – Incident Facts Incident Date 23 May 2012 Airline Air Mauritius Flight Number MK-943 Departure Melbourne, Australia Destination Mauritius, Mauritius Aircraft Registration 3B-NAU Aircraft Type Airbus A340-300 ICAO Type Designator A330B-A340-A3400 ICAO Type Designator NAU was operating flight MK-943 from Melbourne, VI (Australia) to Mauritius (Mauritius) with 197 people on board, at FL340 approximately 220 nm west of Melbourne when the cabin crew encountered The crew turned around and returned to Melbourne. Refreshment may have the word “bomb” written on it in the rear cabin. The plane landed safely on Melbourne’s runway 34 about 40 minutes later, with Kane rescued by emergency services. All the passengers got off. The search for the aircraft and equipment is ongoing. The airline confirmed that a suspicious object was found on board, prompting an emergency return. The flight is expected to depart again on May 24. Police reported finding a soda can with the word “bomb” taped to it. No arrests have yet been made, and an investigation into how the equipment got on board is ongoing.
