I’ll give my full review soon, but in this post I wanted to share my surprise at how empty the plane was (unlike the recent Mumbai to Dubai flight, where I didn’t have a plane to myself).

During the pandemic, long-haul flights are very empty (for example, several weeks ago I wrote about how 11 people were on the longest flight in the world). Lockdowns and travel restrictions have limited international travel, and many of these airlines have been able to justify flights based on the number of passengers they carry.

So empty long-haul flights are generally not surprising in a way because Greece has been available to US travelers for several weeks, making it a popular and accessible destination for Americans. I’m grateful I had the chance to visit Greece because it felt so desolate – I don’t think I’ll ever see it again.

Direct (non Stop) Flights From Athens To Dubai

Why is this plane empty since Greece is open? Well, it’s early in the season and most nonstop flights between the US and Greece only start in early June. So Emirates’ flights from New York to Athens are currently fully booked, not the same in other directions. I’m sure the plane will be full in a few weeks

Hopefully the plane carried enough cargo that the service would at least be more justified (both financially and environmentally).
