Business travelers will appreciate the arrival of Star Alliance member EVA Air, which will launch daily nonstop flights between Cebu and Taipei on March 27. EVA Air operates flights with 184-seat Airbus A321-200 aircraft. In Taipei, passengers can connect to a wide range of Eva Air destinations throughout Europe and North America.

GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation President Louis Ferrer said bringing new routes and airlines to Cebu is an important part of the airport’s transformation under new management. “Many of these flights are Cebu’s first, which will attract inbound tourism and provide a strong boost to export services,” Ferrer said.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport currently serves as an alternate gateway for domestic and international flights to ease congestion at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The airport is undergoing a $326 million expansion and is privately owned by the GMR-Megawide consortium.

The expansion includes the construction of a second terminal building, which will allow the airport to increase passenger volumes. Currently, Cebu handles about 4.7 million passengers annually. Mactan-Cebu International Airport plans to tap into the overseas Philippine labor market, which currently accounts for 34% of all international travelers in the Philippines. However, less than 5% of these travelers currently use Cebu as their departure point. Meanwhile, the airport’s new management has identified potential new routes and is deploying teams to present route options to various carriers.
According to a report released by the Asia Pacific Aviation Center, Cebu is one of the fastest growing airports in Southeast Asia with a 13 percent increase in passengers in the first ten months of 2015. The report added that a new terminal currently under construction would help. To make Cebu a transit hub, Philippine carriers continue to base aircraft in secondary cities due to infrastructure constraints in Manila. The completion of the second terminal in Cebu City will increase the airport’s annual capacity to 12.5 million passengers. In order to resume another international flight, the airline will return flights between Manila and Brunei twice a week every Thursday and Saturday in September. Flight 5J 409 departs Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at 19:10 and arrives at Brunei International Airport at 21:40. Its return flight 5J 410 departs Brunei at 22:30. and arrives in Manila the next day at 12:50 p.m.

The planned reopening of the Manila-Brunei route is the latest positive development in CEB’s efforts to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region in recent weeks. On July 3, 2022, CEB resumed Cebu–Seoul flights, marking the resumption of international operations outside Manila. A few days ago, CEB announced the resumption of direct flights to Sydney from 1 July 2022 following the easing of travel restrictions in the Philippines and Australia.
On the domestic front, ČEB restored 100% of its domestic capacity before the pandemic in April this year. As of July 2022, the airline’s domestic capacity is now 109% of the operational level reached in December 2019.
CEB is expected to increase the frequency of flights to Iloilo and Tacloban next month after expanding its Visayas-Mindanao network (via its Cebu headquarters).

Starting August 5, 2022, Cebu-Iloilo and Cebu-Tacloban flights will have two additional flights per week as the airline continues to expand its hubs outside Metro Manila.
The frequency of flights on the Cebu-Iloilo route will increase from seven to nine times a week, with two flights a day on Fridays and Sundays. This provides more opportunities for Cebuanos and Ilonggos to fly between the two destinations for a weekend trip or a quick visit to family.
Meanwhile, the frequency of the Cebu-Tacloban route will increase from 14 to 16 per week, making the Monday and Friday schedule twice daily. It also gives travelers more choice when they want to fly to Cebu or Tacloban, whether for leisure or business.
