The Moto Guzzi Le Mans III Special was truly the Italian manufacturer’s most beautiful bike of the 1980s. Initially fitted with an 844cc twin, it was a sporty ride. It was also seen in part with a simple but beautiful bikini fairing that gave the bike a slightly aggressive stance. The Moto Guzzi Le Mans III Special has found its way into the hearts of many vintage bike collectors. However, only a few went ahead and modified the bike. One of them is France’s Dirty Seven Garage, with their special 1981 Moto Guzzi Le Mans III called La Monica.

At first glance, you wouldn’t think the bike uses modern or futuristic technology. Yes, the angular lines and pointed fins and paint job give off a steampunk aura. However, a quick look at the history of cars can reveal a time when they were designed that way, in addition to all the gray colors. Yes, La Monica’s design was inspired by American car designs of the 1950s, especially Cadillac. Some of the most popular Cadillacs of the era, the DeVille and El Dorado, featured design elements such as long fenders, taillights, and curved windows. Something the folks at Dirty Seven Garage have adopted and interpreted on their Moto Guzzi.

For starters, the bodywork has been completely redesigned. The tank and tail section were made and reinforced with cast iron. The tail section is made of steel and has the tail lights of the 1959 Cadillac, which adds to the strength of the bike’s design. The engines, carburetors and all mechanical components were given a sleek but complimentary black finish that made the caramel red chassis stand out even more. The bikini fairing was ditched in favor of a bare-bones look, and most of the racing equipment, including the Kawasaki Z1000’s wheels, tires and front end, was adapted from the old Guzzi.
Another thing you should know, apart from the beauty, is that the 844cc twin has been upgraded to 1000cc, proving that the bike is the same show and go. A bunch of modern accessories like knobs and bar mirrors from Rizoma, and Kellerman logos also adorn the bike. Overall, La Monica is a testament to the artistry and limitless inspiration that Dirty Seven Garage was able to seamlessly exist in.
