I can’t believe it’s been almost 6 months since we left the Land Rover and our big budget trip in the Land Down Under to make a temporary home in Fremantle, Western Australia!

I think things have moved quickly because even though I’ve been busy with work and blogging, I’ve always been committed to exploring the beautiful area around Perth on short trips.

From Rottnest Island to the Perth Hills, the Swan Valley to the city, it’s fun to explore what’s on my new and exciting doorstep.
But last week it was time for the beautiful area of Margaret River to come under my wandering eye!
Known as an amazing surf spot, foodie haven, wine tasting paradise and country retreat, Margaret River is often referred to as Perth’s playground – a city park where the people who enjoy long summer days at the beach. red glass around the fire burning in winter.

So I’m happy to share with you how you can travel to Margaret River on a budget – and you won’t feel like you’re missing out on all the good stuff!

First, here’s a rundown of the best things to do in Margaret River that don’t cost much.
Unfortunately, if you’re like us, there’s no problem with lunches at wineries or fabulous spa days – nothing fancy.
Riverview Tourist Park
Fear not, here is a list of the best free, or at least cheap, things to do in Margaret River.
Built in 1903, it is located on the Margaret River peninsula, where you can enjoy taking pictures of the panoramic views, listening to the birds or one of the beautiful hiking trails.
Tip: The Cape Naturalist Lighthouse is better than the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, you have to pay more for it (currently $8), even if you get in and get a good photo!
A stunning cliff jutting into the sea, it’s one of the most beautiful spots on the entire coast here, and it’s worth a stop if you’re looking for a place to have lunch with a view. .

You have a good chance to see some fish or one of the 35,000 whales that migrate here every year from September to December.
Probably my favorite beach in the Margaret River region, Yallingup is a truly beautiful place that showcases the area’s stunning scenery.
These rugged rock formations are fun to explore as you watch the water flow in and out.
There are bridges and walkways to help you climb over them and you can always watch the local fishermen and free divers doing their thing!
Margaret River Hotels: 337 Cheap Margaret River Hotel Deals, Australia
High on my bucket list after visiting Margaret River for just a few days, the Cape to Cape Walk follows the length of the area’s beautiful coastline through the Leuven-Natulista National Protected park.
Take about a week to do this if you want to see the beauty of the natural world.
Or, why not just spend a day walking part of the way – very different, that’s something I’ll visit next time.
Accessed via Moses Rock Road, don’t forget to bring your camera here to capture the beautiful waterfall that I was told flows like crazy after a good rain.
South West Accommodation
Even if you can’t afford lunch, many vineyards in the Margaret River region have daily door-to-door tastings where you can try their best wines.
There are more than 80 wineries here, so just driving the country roads and stopping when you feel like it is the best way to go!
Most of the wineries have beautiful grounds where you can walk around and enjoy the great atmosphere.
The Margaret River Farmers Market is open every Saturday and is the perfect place to stock up on delicious local produce at a fraction of the normal price.

Grab your basket and have breakfast here to the sound of local chatter and live music.
And if you don’t want to buy anything, then you should go to the beautiful and light atmosphere and walk around the shops.

Most places are free to get around and often have free tastings – perfect for those on a budget!
While we were here, a local fisherman brought in a huge salmon and there were professional photographers taking pictures of the old beach in the morning.
Best of all, the giant stingrays love to play so close to the shore that you can almost touch them… except you can’t!
Of course, these guys are huge – like the biggest stingray I’ve ever seen – and they’re a lot of fun to watch.
Caves House Hotel & Apartments Yallingup, Margaret River
At the foot of Cape Leeuwin south of the Margaret River is an old water wheel that tells an interesting story of local history.
It is also a great place to see the meeting of the two great oceans – the Southern and Indian – and whale watching between June and August.
Head to Cowaramup, also known as Cowtown, to have your picture taken with one of the fiberglass cows on the street.
The train route between Busselton and Dunsborough is 31km accessible between these towns and makes for an interesting afternoon.

There are several short routes around Busselton, making two wheels the perfect way to explore this beautiful coastal town if you don’t want to leave.
Spring is wildflower season in the Margaret River region and Dunsborough is the best place to see this spectacular display.
The whole Margaret River area is a hiker’s paradise, and Landy and I really enjoyed it!
You can spend hours just walking here, exploring the quiet paths and views where the tall Karri forests suddenly give way to the beauty of the beach.

Enjoy a free look at their work by exploring the Open Studios created during your visit, or visit one of the galleries.
From interior designers to prints, jewelry and art, there’s tons on offer, and the Art Geo Cultural Complex in Busselton is a real favourite.
The pier in Busselton is probably the most beautiful pier I have ever seen and although you have to pay to go (with), slide down it and swim in its shade, it’s free and very enjoyable!
Vintages Accommodation, Margaret River
#1 A good camera – You will be photographing a lot in Australia and a good camera is essential to do justice to this beautiful landscape. I highly recommend the Sony A6000, which I use for my travels and my love, not least because it’s light, compact and durable!
#2 Good walking shoes – There is a lot of walking in Australia – from cities to national parks! Make sure your feet feel comfortable, too, with New Balance trainers. Perfect for walking, I love myself
#3 Good Guide – I’m a big fan of Lonely Planet Guides and think their Australian book is a good mix.
#4 A good water bottle – Traveling in old Australia can be very thirsty, so make sure you have a metal water bottle that you can fill up on the go, as it is possible to drink water. tube… and free!

#5 Good sun hat – And there’s no denying you a good sun hat to stay safe in Australia too. In my opinion, you can’t go past this Hello Sunshine, it’s beautiful and good for taking care of your eyes.
Self-driving is the best option if you are visiting Margaret River as it gives you flexibility when exploring the area.
The cheapest way to do this is to rent a campervan in Perth, then you can sleep on the cheap (see the section Where to stay for more information).
