September and October (after the summer monsoon) offer cool and pleasant temperatures averaging around 25°C. Shanghai’s airport has the first Maglev high-speed rail, and it takes 8 minutes to reach the city center. It is the fastest train in the world with a speed of 430 km per hour. The subway at Shanghai Airport is served by subway line 2, which takes about 60 minutes to the city center. Getting to the city center is a good option as it is more economical, but depending on where you are going, it may take a while. There are various bus lines that take you to several places with regular services. Most major hotels offer courtesy shuttles to your hotel and it’s a good idea to book them in advance. A taxi in Shanghai takes about 45 minutes from the airport to the city center, but it may take longer if you travel during rush hour. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer. Although you need a Chinese driver’s license, it is possible to rent a car and traffic can be heavy.
The best way to get around Shanghai is to use the subway. The metro is a fast and cheap way to travel within the city and its extensive range will bring you close to all major attractions and hotels. The signs are in both English and Chinese, so it’s easy to get to your destination. Taxis are another convenient and useful option, but they are a bit more expensive. There are many buses with many routes, but some lines are only in Chinese. DiDi (China’s version of Uber) is an affordable and convenient way to travel. Walking around Shanghai is an immersive experience and a great way to see some of the neighborhoods. Alternatively, you may wish to join the tour.

China Eastern has confirmed it will increase services to daily from November 2017, nine months after launching four times a week between Brisbane and Shanghai.
